January all had their Interceptor no improvement in the weather, decided to just shut down until the middle of February Feb 1st all had their Interceptor - very cold (below zero weather) Feb 14th Dremeled all dogs nails Feb 15th cleaned out Wood duck house, blocked any cracks with Gorilla tape Gunny's right rear outside nail bleeding at the skin line (not bad).....crusty ice on top of deep snow Feb 16-17th big thaw & snow disappearing rapidly Feb 18-19th slippery ice with ruts - dangerous just walking Feb 20th - rain & windy changing to ice and snow, wrote up preliminary training plan Mar 2nd Interceptor for all four Mar 3rd-6th hibernation mode Mar 7th morning & afternoon - short OB sessions afternoon - conditioning....free run mud Mar 8th repeat Mar 9th morning - OB & short walking singles marking session Mar 10th morning & afternoon - OB & run brief session of walking baseball Mar 11th morning - OB & short marking session, afternoon run "remote drop drill" Mar 12th afternoon - run double T (bumpers) & marking drill (with ducks) Mar 13th afternoon - run Renegade casting drill Mar 14th afternoon - set of short cold blinds (with ducks) Mar 15-16 took two days off, drove to Little Rock, Arkansas to pick a Phowler boat and ProDrive mud rig after buying a matching trailer at Illowa Marine = tough couple of days on the road Mar 17 sunny, temp around 60° - ran Gunny & Daisy at the square pond for exercise and fun, threw a couple of remote sit, honoring, stand alone singles and each ran a 100 yard cold blind, slept well Mar 18 cloudy, temp around 50° - ran Kooly & Taffey with the same routine as the two younger dogs did yesterday came back later in the afternoon and exercised Gunny & Daisy together note: Website editing capabilities are temporarily in limbo (Front Page extension issues with the server) note: official training starts April 1st (How appropriate is that?) note: record floods predicted for the Mississippi River = need to move duck camp trailer to even higher ground early next week Mar 19 ran Gunny & Daisy at the Square pond DTA, a few stand alone singles & a cold blind (exercise) used mallard Dokken Kooly & Taffey had the day off Mar 20 day off – rained hard all day Mar 21 sunny, forecast high 61° - exercised all four dogs + long walk Mar 22 cooler, left to move trailer at Mississippi duck camp - record flood projection Mar 23-28 six day forecasts clear & very cold = March is “going out like a lion” issue with Gunny = missed physical cue (he bit me, discussed with Pete, tweaking a few situations & mostly clarified the focus - awareness makes it manageable Tuesday next ten days = 40’s and 50’s with four days of rain Mar 29 forecast - sunny with a high of 45°….charge wingers modifications on boat finished trip to Illowa Marine, Gunny went for a ride Mar 30 cold & windy Mar 31. 2011 ran Gunny - easy, fun marks = exercise, his routines are different = he now stays in different crates which are in different areas, focus on desensitization of “his areas to "protect & simple, on lead OB to the airing yard with the other three, paying close attention to his body language so that it becomes a 24/7, “no big deal” habit for me plus he will be “too busy to target” anyone, his bowl possessiveness was eliminated by feeding him in several different “venues”, a variety of very uniquely different bowls and pans, off the floor & out of hand, using various crates and in different locations uses the same logic, for example – he trades places with Daisy’s crate living room), there is a secluded crate in the patio (good view), he can train out of two different crate/boxes off the van (again switching with Daisy), the same Daisy crate “switch” is done at the duck camp trailer = seven different “dens” update from February 18, 2011: the established routines have placed Gunny's issues in remission - maintenance, expectations and routines are working note: remaining proactive and keeping awareness fresh is an ongoing focus update from March 2013: Gunny will be running HRC Finished this summer, his issues from the past are no longer a problem, hip issues remain an issue which requires a close watch on training loads
